Every batch we sell is tested against ISO 3632, the international standard for saffron. The batch code is printed on your jar. Match it to the table below.

How to read these numbers
ISO 3632 grades saffron on three absorbance readings taken from a spectrophotometer. Crocin governs how much colour a gram will give you, picrocrocin governs the characteristic bitterness, and safranal governs aroma. Category I is the top band.
Higher is better for crocin and picrocrocin. Safranal sits in a range rather than a floor, because very high safranal usually indicates over-drying rather than better saffron.
A number on a website is worth exactly as much as the certificate behind it, which is why the scanned report is linked rather than summarised.
What a report cannot prove
ISO 3632 measures quality, not origin. Iranian and Afghan saffron routinely test in Category I. A lab report tells you what you are holding is genuine, potent saffron — it does not by itself prove the saffron grew in Kashmir. Origin comes from the supply chain and the GI tag; potency comes from the lab. You want both, and you should be suspicious of any seller who offers only one and talks as though it covers the other.
If your batch code doesn't match
Message us on WhatsApp with a photo of the jar. Either we have been slow updating this page, or something has gone wrong at our end. Both are our problem, not yours, and either way you get a replacement or a refund.
